Papio Ursinus

In 1999, 21 baboons were killed through human interventions. At the time it seemed that no-one noticed or cared, there was little media attention, no support from the authorities and residents didn't seem to express much concern at all.

In 2005 the loss of Golden Arrow and her infant and the subsequent fatalities to three other baboons - as well as the crippling wounds to Eric and Paddy-May have all been met with an overwhelming response - the media have been fantastic giving us so much support and it seems that Capetonians are outraged at what is happening to our baboons - whilst the response from the international friends of the baboons has been equally passionate.

At last the tide is turning and we will be able to save the baboons and perhaps people will learn to live alongside them.

A big thank you to
everyone who has contributed, written letters and spoken out for the baboons - we appreciate each and everyone of you.
